Associate Director – Creative Strategy (Shopper Marketing)

We’re looking for Shopper Marketing expert with a Brand Planning soul to join us as Associate Director of Creative Strategy. In this role, it will be your responsibility to uncover breakthrough consumer insights, help our teams turn them into big creative marketing ideas, and identify high-impact opportunities to raise the bar on how our brands help people shop and buy. It’s not a small or easy task, but it’s a fun and rewarding one. The person who takes it on should be excited about spending about 70% of their time shaking up shopper marketing and creating immersive retail activations, and the other 30% of their time taking on a more cross-channel/branding role. Tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Leading the day-to-day shopper marketing work across a portfolio of award-winning brands that make up one of DigitasLBi’s largest accounts
  • Act as champion and muse for the creation of best-in-class retail activations
  • Working in lock-step with the entire team (other Planners, Data Analytics gurus, Media Planners, Tech folks, external partners and more) in order to bring to life strategies and executions that create a seamless brand experience at every point in the consumer journey
  • Proactively determine where and how in-depth insight about the consumer’s attitude and behavior can help make the client’s marketing more successful
  • Identify relevant marketing program implications for the retail space
  • Drive insight into the company new business process for shopper marketing related pitches
  • Translate existing customer insights into relevant marketing program implications
  • Apply innovative research and listening methodologies to create relevant, breakthrough customer insights
  • Partner with our cutting-edge primary researchers, internal analysis group and client data/research organizations to maximize their work’s customer insights
  • Lead team brainstorms that efficiently produce breakthrough insights
  • Create demand for Creative Strategy’s contribution to shopper marketing asks by demonstrating its impact

 To qualify, you’ll need:

  • Four year degree (thinking/writing intensive discipline Master’s preferred)
  • 7-9 years of experience in marketing and/or strategic services organizations such as an advertising agency account planning department, brand consultancy, consulting firm or large strategic planning group
  • Significant Shopper Marketing expertise
  • Qualitative research expertise applying innovative qualitative research techniques
  • Familiarity with interpreting and applying quantitative research
  • Ability to discern customer insight and “human truth” from mounds of data
  • Passion and empathy for the customer’s perspective
  • Ability to challenge the team to uncover “what’s in it for the customer”
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills
  • Ability to quickly gain the trust of clients and internal team members at all levels
  • Digital experience and category experience in working on products with long purchase cycles are nice-to-haves
  • Candidate must be open to travel as needed
